Archives in action - living memory: we’re back - this time in Crewe!

If you’ve been following our Archives in Action reports, you might remember our brilliant “Mining for Memories” project. It was part of our Living Memory strand, where we’re gathering stories from local people about Cheshire’s rich histories - especially the ones that aren’t yet well represented in our archives. The Winsford mining stories we collected were absolutely fascinating, and we were thrilled with how many people got involved.
Well… we’re at it again! This time, we’re turning our attention to Leighton Hospital in Crewe - it has served its community for over half a century and in the next few years will be completely rebuilt - and we want to hear your memories.
In September, we popped up for Heritage Open Day at the Crewe Heritage Centre to chat with visitors and we heard some really amazing stories! From the Queen’s official opening in 1972, to tales of hospital radio, Christmas shows, and some truly creative fundraising efforts, people had so much to share.
Now, we’re inviting anyone with a connection to Leighton Hospital to join us for a group conversation. It’ll be a chance to reminisce, share stories, and help us record these memories for future generations. Whether you worked there, tuned into the hospital radio, attended the annual Christmas shows or just have a vivid memory of a visit - we’d love to hear from you!
